Professor Osy Ezechukwunyere Nwebo was born on the 23rd of October 1954 and hails
from Lume Nneiri Umuduru in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State Nigeria.
He attended Central School, Umuduru, Isiala Mbano where he obtained his First School
Leaving Certificate in 1970 and Okigwe National Secondary School, Umuna Okigwe where
he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1974. He also went ahead to obtain
a General Certificate of Education (GCE) A Level in 1978.
Besides his primary and secondary education, he attended the University of Lagos
Akoka for his LL.B (Hons) Degree in 1981, The Nigerian Law school where he obtained
a professional degree B.L (Hons) and afterwards University of Lagos Akoka again
for a position of Master at Law (LLM) Prof. also went further to obtain a master
degree (M.Sc) in international affairs and diplomacy from Imo State University Owerri
and a Ph.D in international law from Dover Delaware University U.S.A (distance learning).
Talking on his working experience, Prof. Osy Ezechukwunyere Nwebo served his country
at the National Youth Service Corp in 1982 – 1983. He worked at the state house
annex, Lagos (operational / Legal Dept) in 1975-1986. He also lectured at the College
of Legal Studies, Imo State University Okigwe (now Owerri) – 1987 – 2007 he held
the position of a chairman of Isiala – Mbano Local Government Area in 2002-2003
and currently is a lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the Imo State University and
due to his love for legal practice. He is the principal partner in a law firm of
Professor Osy Ezechukwunyere Nwebo and associates (Ezechukwunyere Chambers) of No.
47 Okigwe Road Owerri and he holds the rank of a professor of Public Law conferred
on him in 2001.
Professor Osy E. Nwebo has held several Administrative position and they include
Dean – faculty of law, Imo State University – 1998-2000 and in 2005-2009, also the
position of a coordinator evening law programme Imo State University, head of department,
faculty of law, Imo State University. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar association,
Nigerian Association of Law teachers and the Nigerian society of International Lawyer.
In his quest to impact knowledge on others, he has a lot of academic works, articles
and publications to his name. he has participated at national and international
conferences and served in national and state committees and panels. He is also a
legal adviser to institutions and bodies, professor Osy is a member of several social
development services and has also earned awards, certificate of Honour and Chieftaincy
titles due to his
hard work.
To crown it up, he was appointed Acting Vice Chancellor of Imo State University
on 20th February 2010 by his excellence Dr. Ikedi Ohakim and is married with four
children.
